We have been slowly finishing our basement since we moved in three years ago. Mike originally put in a storage room, a bedroom, an office, and a bathroom. Our goal is to finish the rest of it with a kitchen, dining room, another bedroom, and a living room. The idea is to have a fully functioning apartment, just in case we ever want to rent it out. The next phase of our project started this past month. In order to have a fully functioning bedroom, you need to have something called an egress window, which allows a person to get out in case of a fire. We decided to put two windows in our basement; one in the bedroom, the other in what will be the kitchen.
So here's what it looked like before, with a bunch of our junk in the way:
Then here's what it looked like while Mike was breaking out the block, and after two huge holes were dug outside:
And here's what the semi-finished window looks like. Mike still needs to finish around the edges.
Here's where the other egress window will go, in the finished bedroom down there:

Then another even more exciting event happened at the end of the summer. Our good friend Jess had her baby! Meet Lydia Marie!!
Here she was making a heart to show how much she loves me:)
The ladies enjoyed a breakfast out at Leo's with all their cousins. And they insisted on having pig tails!
We also happened to find a HUGE tomato worm on my morning glories. That thing was just feasting on them!
These finally bloomed in late August. My goal is to get them to go all over the garden fence.
