This is a picture of the house we stayed in. It was unbelievable. It had three floors, five bedrooms, a rec room with a pool table, large kitchen, dining room, and living room, and a pool and hot tub!
Here's the back of the house. I was standing in the water to take this shot. The nice thing about the sound side is that the water is probably about 3 feet deep a long way out. So we didn't' have to worry about big waves or rip tides with the kids.
This area is popular for kite boarding and wind surfing (both seen in the background). This is the view from the top deck of the house.
The pool was very popular with the kids!
The kids loved the hot tub too. The sound water was warmer than the pool water. The ocean was beautiful too.
Hannah loved the water.
I tried wind surfing. This was a pretty calm day, which is a good day to learn. I could get out great, it was getting back to the house that I had trouble with. Dave is a pro. This was all his gear and he would go out on super windy days. It was fun to watch.
A few of the kids on the ocean side. It was a short walk to the ocean so we tried to go there often. The waves were huge most days because of all the tropical storms, so it was just easier to stay on the sound side with the kiddos.
One of the rainy days, we packed up the kids and went to an aquarium. It was pretty small but the girls had fun. They especially loved the sting ray touch tank.
Todd standing in front of the pool table. This was nice on rainy days!
Right in front of our house was a dairy queen that was closed for the season. The kids liked riding their bikes around the parking lot and through the drive thru!
Eating popcorn and watching a movie. There were 12 kids total from 1 month to five years old. They all had a blast. And surprisingly, there weren't a lot of conflicts. Of course they had some tiffs, but overall they did very well.
Our family in the backyard. The end of the week was more wind and rain, but even then it was in the 70's.
A kite boarder with a beautiful sunset. We saw a cool sunrise one morning too. The perk of being on a small strip of land in the Atlantic!
It was an amazing vacation. We would go back any time. The kids would play hard all day and go to bed around 8. The adults would stay up playing games till about 11. Our girls did so well on the ride down and the ride back up. It was about a 14 hour drive. We were able to stop and visit Katie Hughes in Richmond on the way down. We stayed with her for an evening. It was great to see her too. We enjoyed spending time with the DeJonges, Westermans, Bretzlaffs, and DeFauws.
